11.06.11 Honley Agricultural Show - Graham Cruze (Monterrez) - My local show and very enjoyable, lots to see including the judging of the Colne Valley Beagle Show. Shame this show is always the same day as The Beagle Club Champ. Show. Emma BOB & G4 and later won the A.V. Post Grad Stakes. Milly 3rd in Veteran, Miles 2nd in Vintage and I won 2nd in the 'Pet' photographic competition.

19.06.11 - THE SCOTTISH BEAGLE CLUB CHAMP SHOW, my hounds weren't entered but did go to support my sister Hazel who was giving CC's for the first time, I had a very enjoyable day !
June 25th - BLACKPOOL - Ferelith Somerfield, yet again another large Post Grad. class for Emma so was happy to be short listed.

03.07.11 - WINDSOR - Was disappointed Emma was unplaced in Post Grad. under Albert Wight but Miles' 2nd in the Veteran Stakes under Jill Peak certainly made up for that, absoloutely delighted !
July 10th - EAST OF ENGLAND - Doug Hall, delighted with Emma's VHC in Post Grad (14). Lovely show, hadn't been here since 1990 !

03.09.11 - I judged the Beagles at WOLSINGHAM AGRICULTURAL SHOW. What a lovely show this is, really enjoyed the day, lots to see and was very happy with my entry especially my BOB, a very charming young bitch Clair Jones' Clairdale Willowmena.

No more shows as Emma is pregnant to Stacey Burrow's youngster Redcap Trumpet Major for Sumerlilly !!

28.09.11 - My Miles was put to sleep. It was all so very quick and so very sad, his Mum Molly had kidney failure for over a year, with poor Miles is was a matter of weeks. He had little control of his hind legs and couldn't get himself out of his bed or into the garden, he was a shadow of his former self as he'd also stopped eating, his sad eyes said it all, it broke my heart but I had to let him go. So hard to believe he was still showing his socks off just a month earlier.

MILES 21.06.98 - 28.09.11 sire : Ch. Rossgay Rambler dam : Newlin Almond at Madika

I had never planned on keeping a boy but at 5 weeks old it was obvious Miles was something special. He was a fabulous show dog who never let me down, his and my first C.C. when only 12 months old was amazing, the judge Alan Lenton after awarding Miles the C.C. asked who I was, I couldn't think as it took all my time not to reply " I'm nobody" !! 2nd C.C. and BIS at The Beagle Club was a dream come true and as for his 3rd, well, I really hadn't expected that !! He was also won well in Ireland with 4 Green Stars 2 with BOB), 8 Res. Green Stars & 1 CACIB. His show success continued throught his 13 years with many many fantastic days to remember.

Miles was more than just a show dog, he excelled at everything he did, winning at his first every obedience competition, surprising everyone especially the judge (he was very much the odd one out amongest the Collies !). His wins are endless, likewise his achievements. I was so pleased to have him featured in the then new Beagle book, Living With A Beagle for his obedience. He was however still very much a hunting hound and many walks would turn into hours searching for him, listening to the voice in the distance and eventually going home without him. Once he was ready to come home (usually 6 hours later !) he would always 'find' some nice person to give me a call so I could come and collect him ! Yes, I worried and shed many tears thinking I'd never see him again but no, I never worried he'd be stolen, he was quite a handful, head strong with attitude, no, he'd always be returned !! He would have made a first class hunting hound the way in which he quatered the ground, the way he picked up the scent, he knew exactly what he was doing and where to search. He was also a self taught 'airport sniffer dog' (without the airport !), he would sniff bags, breif cases and coat pockets but where as most Beagles would then try help themselves, he would simply sit back and stare at the item, that was his way of telling you there was food in there !

Miles loved his little pets, it all started with the rescued hamster, poor thing became bald with all his licking, sadly they don't live long and Miles was so distraught when 'Wee Ham' died we had to buy him another ! The degus were of huge interest to him, he liked to lick and nuzzle them likewise the pet rats. They all seemed to know he meant no harm and would happily walk through his legs and over his body. The frogs in the garden were another little critter Miles liked to follow around, he could be trusted with anything.

There will never be another Miles, my pride and joy, my wonderful boy, now with his Mum who he missed, both gone but never to be forgotten.

06.10.11 - PUPPIES !!! Emma gave birth to four beautiful babies, two dark tri boys like Daddy, one with a small spot on rump, the other a bigger spot on rump, one spotty girl like Mummy and one tan and white boy like ? Not big puppies but big enough for little Emma ! Delighted that the birth (my dread) did not require a Vet and was all done in 3 1/2 hours with only the last one giving me worries !!

13.10.11 - 1 week old already and all have more than doubled their birth weight. Nice chunky babies. I miss my bed !

15.10.11 - I judged my first Club Show, Devon, Cornwall and South West Beagle Society. Serena Parker kindly offered to come with me for company on the drive, it was much appreciated as still feeling rather emotional over Miles. We chatted so much that we arrived before we knew it ! I had a very enjoyable day and was delighted with the quality and quantity of the entry (74/85), my BD & BIS was Davies' Barrvale Overture, BB & Res BIS Rodericks Barterhound Gem Stone, BP Kemps Timamso Ptamigan and BV Rodericks Ch. Barterhound Whisper. Veteran dog was a struggle, nine lovely oldies, all a credit to their owners, it broke my heart, the tears are never far away.

20.10.11 - Puppies now 2 weeks old, feel I can relax now in that no-one is going to suddenly for no reason die !

27.10.11 - Time flies, now 3 weeks, Emma is such a fab Mum, just seems to know everthing ! Everyone ate as if  they always had, the weaning couldn't be going better. They are all so gorgeous, simply can't choose just one, love my little spotty girl, but that tan and white, he's special and as for the Twins .....

03.11.11 - 4 weeks old and pretty active, such a lovely age, so cute ! Two boys now booked, oh dear, how am I going to choose which one ?!! Girl did a perfect 'stand' tail up and wagging, can't not keep her, then the tan boy stood beautiful, aaaggghhhh ....... the twins were too full of mischief to stop still for 2 seconds !! Maybe in a couple more weeks it'll become clear who's staying !

01.12.11 - 8 weeks old and all got micro-chipped. Two had to be re-done on the day.

02.12.11 - All at the Vet for their first vaccination. They just slept in the car, had a fun time running around at the Vet (peeing and pooing !) then a sleepy trip back home, all excellent little travellers ! Unfortunately Little Spot's chip couldn't be found so will need done again.

03.12.11 - Little tan boy Milo is so sore, he can hardly lift his head and cries when you touch his neck, poor baby, he was one that took two attempts to chip, then vaccinated, no wonder his neck is tender, I'll not be doing that again.

07.12.11 - Oh no, Little Spot is off to his new home, it's so hard to hand him over, like parting with my own pet. Although they had originally enquired about the tan boy (who was booked) they fell in love with this wild puppy. He was Emma's favourite as he gave back as good as he got where as the others didn't want to play THAT hard ! Damson was wild and when his new family came to see him he displayed everything I'd told them about him ! Fortunately they weren't put off having him, what a fabulous home in Preston, and has Lupin (a Newlin Beagle) to play with, perfect !

08.12.11 - Today was Daisy's turn to go, thank goodness I wasn't handing her over, my gorgeous baby girl. Russell was taking her to Scotland with him to her new family in Kilsyth. She has a Newfoundland as a companion and a cat and fantastic walks just across the road. Another happy home ! As with Damson, she left with all her certificates, family photo album, a bag of puppy food, a blanket which they had all slept on that morning so smelt of her family and a toy, and of course a Christmas present. Daisy travelled all the way to Scotland in a little bed on the front seat with not a peep out of her, what a little star.

16.12.11 - 2nd Vaccinations today for my Eddie and his tan brother Milo. It's been much easier with just the two but the longer he stays the harder it is to hand him over, he's part of the family.

25.12.11 - Puppies first Christmas !! The boys opened their presents, squeaky toys, Emma too got a squeaky toy, she may be a Mum but she's not grown out of her squeakies !!

21.12.11 - I was talked into taking Eddie to a Match Night, despite never being on a show lead or being walked up and down, he was a little star and not only won Best Baby Puppy (under 6 mths) but went on to win Best In Match beating the Puppy (6 - 12mths) and Adult winners !! Well, I certainly hadn't expected that !
Eddie pictured the day after winning BIM.

26-12-11 - Milo's turn to go to his new family in Cupar, Fife. I travelled to Scotland with Emma and her boys, they were all as good as gold, sleeping all the way. The family met me at Hazel's in Edinburgh and had brought their lovely rescue Beagle Megan. Handing him over was heartbreaking even though he was going to a fab home with a Beagle friend.

27-12-11 - Livingston Show at Lanark, I went along to chat up with friends, it was great seeing everyone, I miss you all !!!

Emma and her babies, the last photo of all the family together. All the puppies settled into their new homes without as much as a peep out of any of them, perhaps having the blanket and toy with familiar smells helped. All are in excellent homes, they're happy and so am I. Puppies, they are such hard work but worth  it !! Emma, what a fabulous Mum, never tired of them, always playing with them, still is ! She had access to them when ever she wanted and often popped into the pen just to say hello. We will definately let her have another family some time in the future and hopefully next time we'll keep a little girl.
