******DECEMBER*****

Some sad news with the passing of another Golden Oldie, Tannahill Teaser, at 151/years of age. Winnie was bred from Lorna Binks’ first beagle Norcis Teandore Lady and Ch Tolliver of Tragband. At age 6 months she was Best Puppy Bitch at both the HAS and SBC Champ Shows. Two months later she was Best Puppy in Show and won her first Reserve CC at the B.C. of Northern Ireland under Betty Lawson-White. Winnie continued her winning ways at both Open and Championship shows picking up another RCC and a Challenge Certificate on the way.
Both her daughters, Tia and Temptress, were awarded their stud book numbers and Winnie is survived by her offspring who continue to do well in the show ring.

******NOVEMBER*****

Rachel Cuthill-Thomson has only just spilled the beans to this out-of-touch webmaster to tell of Serenaker Othello gaining his Junior Warrant - with his win at our Champ Show in June! This was only discovered when Rachel was informing me of a gap in the Results page ~ Dyson’s Group 3 and Best Special Hound Puppy placings at Perth - back in April! A belated “well done” Rachel.

As has been stated previously on these pages the dedication required to achieve a K.C. Good Citizen Gold Award for any breed is to be commended. However, there can’t be many households whose full complement of Beagles has achieved KCGC Gold. Louise Bennett deserves a medal of her own as her youngster Macey joins Kennel mates Copper and Taz as proud recipients of the Gold award.

******OCTOBER*****

Well done to Fiona MacDonald, left, whose homebred Finmorlan Symphony was Best Puppy at Midland Counties on October 28th after winning both Minor Puppy and Puppy bitch classes under Viv Phillips.
To win BP she had to overcome the Best puppy Dog winner in the shape of Fiona Findlay’s Rhiconich Rufus (photo by Samantha Webster).

Suzanne McGiffen has every right to look mightily pleased as she has just steered Bailey (Rhiconich Kirk) to his K.C. Good Citizen Gold Award and Hamish (Fallowfield Master Dominic), at only 7 months of age, to his Bronze. Well done to all three!

With apologies - and belated congratulations - to Fiona and Stewart Brannan, News has only just reached deepest darkest Fife that their Ch Ardvreck Caerlaverock von Dapperdawg ShCM won the Dog CC at Paignton & District Fanciers Association in August under Judge Graham Hill. This is Monty’s 4th CC.
Heads will roll in the News Room!.

******SEPTEMBER*****

Hazel Deans won the Reserve Bitch CC at Driffield under Maureen Caney with Barterhound Bouquet for Gempeni JW ShCM.  This is Flora’s 7th RBCC.
David Craig was BOB with Balderstone Bumble of Davricard but possibly the happiest exhibitor may have been Jaqui Walton whose Riversong Haggai With Vigor ShCM took the DCC thereby gaining his Champion’s title (subject to KC approval).

Lorna Binks and Hazel Deans enjoyed their foray south claiming Reserve Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show respectively with Tannahill Indigo and Gempeni Flower Girl at FCBC Open show under Moray Armstrong. Christine Lewis claimed Best in Show with Fallowfield Royal Richard and Kristen Theobald completes the line up, left, with Orchidvale Angelica of Breskar ShCM who was Best Veteran in Show.

A good start to the show career of Hazel Deans’ homebred puppy Rosie - Gempeni Flower Girl - (right) as she wins Special Best Minor Puppy in Show at Lothian CC, her first outing, on Sept. 8th.
With two class wins at the same show Liz Calikes and Lynn Bailey’s Newlin Ingot for Salenko(left) can now add the letters JW after his name (subject to KC approval).
Completing a clean sweep of the classes, Liz then won BOB & Gp2 with Newlin Hattie.

********AUGUST********

MONTY WINS CC AT PAIGNTON - SEE OCTOBER NEWS ABOVE

Rachel Cuthill-Thomson continues her winning ways with Vinnie - Ch Serenaker Trial By Magic - as he wins the RDCC (his 6th in total) at N&MCBC under Brian Foster on August 25th.  (photo courtesy of N&MCBC)

In what has been a successful year for beagles at Scottish Open shows (to date 2 Best in Show and 2 Reserve Best in Show wins coupled with good Group placings) there was only one award still to be won.
Liz Calikes has filled that particular void with Newlin Ingot who won Best of Breed, Group 2, Puppy Group 1 and finally Best Puppy in Show at Upperward of Lanark on August 11th under Claire Hindley.

A busy weekend for Erica Matthew as she won Best in Show at Clatt Companion Show on Aug 4th under Mickey Ramsay with Carvaha Solitaire (left) and was then Best of Breed under Richard Ravell at Turriff the following day with Semeru Gadabout to Redcap (co-owned with Michelle Kingsland).
Erica didn’t get a chance to relax on Monday as she was then judging at Turriff Companion show!

********JULY********

Sad news with the passing of Hazel Deans’ Ch & Ir Ch Gempeni Wildflower on July 19th, just 4 months short of her 15th birthday. As well as being a much loved pet “Poppy” had a long and successful show career. The first of her 5 CCs was won at Border Union in 1999 and the last of her 6 RCCs at BCNI in 2010 at nearly 121/2 years of age.
As her titles tell you, Poppy (Norcis Murphy's Law x Gempeni Mistletoe) was also campaigned successfully in Ireland where she became an Irish Champion in 2003, two years after gaining her UK title.
Her list of show wins is too long to mention here, but her success in the Veteran Classes was quite astonishing. This includes winning the Beagle Club’s annual points trophy for Best Veteran for the last 4 years, 5 times in total, and her record of 7 consecutive Best Veteran Bitch wins at Devon, Cornwall & SWBS may never be bettered.

Well done to Dick & Wilma Morrison whose Newlin Iona who came through a large entry under Nick Morgan to claim Best of Breed at Hound Association of Scotland limit Show on July 8th.
Beagles have been the first breed judged at this show in recent years but the long wait for Best in Show was rewarded when Storm went on to be placed Reserve Best in Show and, at just short of 11 months of age, Best Puppy in Show.

********JUNE********

Congratulations to Jim and Debbie Linden as their Bruadair Lag-An-Rata JW ShCM capped a great 2011 by being named as Scottish Beagle of the Year 2011 and also winner of the Craigmount Trophy.

Brian Foster must certainly have enjoyed his trips north of the border this year! Having already taken the Dog CCs at HAS and SKC he had a memorable weekend as his and Phil Jones’ AUST GR CH Orobay Graceful Triumph won the DCC and BIS at the SBC Champ Show (right) and then took the DCC and BOB at Border Union the following day with Stormpasture Holimoli (pictured left at last year’s SBC Champ show).

We have another Beagle making a splash in the world of Agility. Liz McEwan’s Mitch (Molesend Brewer) has only recently started to compete but has just won his first Grade 1 competition, now moving into Grade 2.
By the looks of the photo opposite he’s having a ball along the way!

********MAY********

A select few will ever achieve a Best in Show but not many will manage this twice within a few months with different dogs. Well done to Rachel Cuthill who has repeated her BIS at Bon Accord in January, this time with Serenaker Othello at Banff, Moray & Nairn under Carole Wood.
Dyson (Fallowfield Royal Richard x Ch & Ir Ch Serenaker Devil Woman JW ShCM) is co-owned with his breeders Serena Parker and Graham Stevens and only turned one year old at the end of April.
Rachel, Dyson and Judge Carole Wood are photographed opposite by Nicky Stewart who won Best Hound Puppy with Canowindra Ribbon around Dughallmor.

Congrats to Louise Bennett who handled her youngster Macey (Serenaker S’ogni D’Oro) to her KC Good Citizen Dog Scheme Silver certificate on May 9th at the tender age of 11 months.

So close to a hat trick of CCs at SKC for Rachel Cuthill as she scooped the RDCC with Vinnie under Judge Sam Goldberg. She was pipped by Foster & Davies’ AUST GR CH Orobay Graceful Triumph (IMP AUS) who recently gained his UK title (above, left).
The day, however, belonged to another tan and white on a “hot streak” - David Craig’s Davricard Buttercup who was also Best of Breed at HAS (see photo below).
David’s Davricard Martina won the RBCC and was BP.

We’ve had Champ Show and Open Show BPIS already this year and the set is now complete as Marada Brudal by Bruadair scooped BPIS at Hamilton C.C. Limit show under Jessie McLeod on May 9th. A very long evening was made worthwhile when Tara was also awarded RBIS just before 10 p.m.

     ********APRIL********

More Best Puppy in Show News, this time at Cambuslang where the Linden’s Marada Brudal by Bruadair  beat all other youngsters under B.I.S. judge Ms S Wiles.
To add to a good day Jim and Debbie’s Lagan won BOB and Group 1. This is his 5th Open Show group win of the year. As far as the records go back on this site (2006) there has never been five Group 1 wins by beagles at this stage of the year, let alone by the same dog!

Both Best Puppy awards went to Scots at the Beagle Club of Northern Ireland Champ Show on April 21st under Pat Sutton. Best Puppy Dog & BPIS went to Rachel Cuthill and Serena & Graham Parker’s Serenaker Othello (right) while Lorna Binks won Best Puppy Bitch with Tannahill Jet Black (top).
Best of Breed was the Havard’s Avannah Ginny and the dog ticket was won by Foster & Davies’ Aust GR Ch Orobay Graceful Triumph - his second CC in consecutive weekends.

Congratulations to David Craig who won Best of Breed with Davricard Buttercup (Ch Nedlaw Barbarian x Davricard Stella), just a week shy of her first birthday, under Judge Lynda Powell at HAS on April 14th. Well done also to Lewis Fraser who won the 12-16 year YKC Handling Class at the same show with Scarlett, thereby qualifying for Crufts 2013.

Our first Agility piece of the year - and it’s not Chiefy! Hayley Barnett’s 3½ year old Trinston’s Lady Of The Glen AW(G) (Am Ch Wilkeep Co’s Hocus Pocus at Fallowfield x Vibacre Saxicola Insignis) is enjoying tremendous success on the agility circuit. Last month at Crufts Macy was part of the team, competing in the Medium category, who won their semi-final and came second in the final (much to the amazement of the Crufts commentator!)
Last weekend, competing at Dundee, she won her way into Grade 7 which means she can now compete in Championship classes.
And they say you can’t train a Beagle!

April news begins as March news ended - with success for Bruadair Lag-An-Rata JW ShCM as he takes his second RBIS of the year, this time at West Lothian on April 1st

     ********MARCH********

A good trip over the border to Four Counties Champ Show was enjoyed by several home based Scots. Not many will have travelled further than Rachel Cuthill but she was well rewarded with Vinnie’s (Ch Serenaker Trial by Magic) 4th CC and a Best in Show, his second of the year. Rachel also owns the Best Puppy Dog winner - in partnership with Serena Parker & Graham Stevens - Serenaker Othello.
Completing the main dog awards (pictured left with Judge Jo Norris) is Jim and Debbie Linden’s Bruadair Lag-An-Rata JW ShCM who won the Reserve Dog CC, his first, a few weeks short of his second birthday.
The Bitch CC & RBIS was won by David Craig’s Ch Davricard Matilda, the RBCC by Michelle Kingsland’s Julemark Scarlet at Redcap, and Best Puppy Bitch and BPIS was David Craig’s Davricard Buttercup.

Sad news from Barbara and Sandy Purves as they have lost their homebred Champion Craigmount Ben Bhreac JW who died peacefully on March 10th at 16½ years of age.
“Beau” was  by Ch  Dialynne  Tolliver  of  Tragband x                Ch Craigmount Golden Marvel and had 5 RCCs to his credit on top of his 3 CCs.
A great showman in the ring and quite the character at home Beau will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.

Beagles winning both A.V. Hound Special Minor Puppy & A.V.H Special Puppy classes at the same show doesn’t seem to happen too often but the feat was achieved by two youngsters at East of Scotland under Judge Anne Massie. Liz Calikes’ Newlin Ingot won the Minor Puppy class and Jackie & Lewis Fraser’s Wyvisview Myrtle Beach won the Puppy class.
Liz later went on to claim Best Special Minor Puppy in show under Sandra Johnston.

     ********FEBRUARY*********

The aforementioned Bruadair Lag-An-Rata JW ShCM has completed a fine week by winning BOB and the Hound group at Rutherglen under Judge Mrs Ann Hill before being awarded Reserve Best in Show under Graham Hill.

Beagle owners must admire the work and effort required to enable a beagle to lie down and not move in a strange environment for a whole two minutes, not to mention a variety of tasks that do not come naturally to our sometimes single-minded breed.
So congratulations to Suzanne McGiffen whose Bailey (Rhiconich Kirk) has been awarded the silver K.C. Good Citizen Award.

A good day had by Lorna Binks as sister and brother Tannahill Jet Black and T. Black Jack won Junior and Post Grad respectively at Caledonian before their dam, Tannahill Indigo, completed the clean sweep by winning Open and Best of Breed.
T. Jet Black(pictured opposite) was then awarded BPIB,then the Puppy group and finally Best Puppy in Show.
All awards were under Norwegian Judge Mrs Brit Brodwall
.

Congrats to Jim & Debbie Linden who have won the Scottish Kennel Club Open Show Pup of the Year competition at Alva with Bruadair Lag-An-Rata JW ShCM.
Dogs and Pups who qualify with the most points gained from Open show class wins, group placings, Best in Show etc  compete against each other in a match knockout system for the DOTY and POTY titles.
The Bruadair kennels have a successful history in the competition. On the previous two occasions their dogs have qualified Macall Highlander at Bruadair won Pup of the Year in 2004 and 4 years ago Lagan’s dam Bruadair Dealaidh JW ShCM won Reserve Dog of the year.

     ********JANUARY*********

At Bon Accord on Jan 14th Rachel Cuthill’s Vinnie - Ch Serenaker Trial By Magic - became the first Beagle this year to win a Best in Show. After winning Best of Breed and the Hound Group under Alison Morton he went on to claim the top award under Arlene Clure. Nice way to celebrate being a Champion for 1 month!
Rachel also had success with Serenaker Othello - jointly owned with Serena Parker and Graham Stevens - who won Junior, Post Grad and Puppy Group 1.

After a successful first competitive year Jim & Debbie Linden’s Bruadair Lag-An-Rata JW ShCM has qualified for the SKC  Open Show Dog and Pup of the Year competitions at Alva on Feb 5th under judge Astrid Ogilvie.
