SOUTHERN COUNTIES Championship Show was held over four days from 1st to 4th June. Beagles were judged on the first day of the show by Karen Simkin. 

The Havards had a successful day winning BCC and BOB with Ch Annavah Princess Tiana, RDCC with Annavah Nickleby and BPIB with Dufosee Julianna avec Annavah. Julianna went on to win HPG1 judged by Jacqui Ward. The RBCC was won by Sam Goldberg’s Molesend Dormouse. Serena Parker and Graham Stevens’ Serenaker Saltydog was successful in the Puppy Stakes (Hound/Pastoral) winning Best Overall on the day judged by Mrs C.E. Cartledge

The SOUTHERN COUNTIES BEAGLE CLUB Open Show followed and was judged by last minute replacement Jessie Bell. Saltydog had further success winning BPD and RBD. The only other SBC member in the top awards was Sam Goldberg whose Moelsend Crumble was RBB.

Fiona Findlay’s Rhiconich Obconica is the breed’s first Scottish Open Show Hound Group winner of 2023. He achieved this at St Andrews, Cupar & DCS held at Errol on 3rd June from two replacement judges, Alan Meldrum judging the breed and Kathy Spacey judging the Group.

At THREE COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP Show on 10th June Hazel Deans’ Gempeni Cornflower (pictured right at the Beagle Club) was awarded her 3rd and crowning CC followed by Best of Breed by judge Michelle Kingsland. Scottish owned and bred Maisie’s previous CCs were won in 2022 at Windsor and NMCBC. Maisie also has 5 RCCs.

Serena Parker had a successful day with Ch Serenaker Armani who won the RDCC. Arnie also won the Champion Stakes on the day and returned the following day to win Reserve Best overall from the four days.

Best Veteran was Marion Hunt and Jo Norris’ Ch Shercroft Apollo JW ShCM

The following day THE BEAGLE CLUB held their 125th ANNIVERSARY CHAMPIONSHIP Show at the Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester. Mr Oleg Voloshin (USA) judged the dogs and Mr Eddie Dziuk (USA) judged the bitch classes and jointly BIS.

Parker & Stevens’ Serenaker Saltydog was Best Puppy Dog.

 BEST PUPPY IN SHOW went to Lynda and Pam Havard’s Dufosee Julianna avec Annavah (pictured left).

Best Veteran Bitch and Best Special Working in Show went to Samantha McBain’s Redcap Bella Sorella JW ShCM VW.

BORDER UNION Championship Show was held at Kelso on 17th June. The show can be remembered for enjoying very warm weather but also for there being no entries in Open Dog. Has this ever happened before?

Beagles were judged by Roger Henningsson-Dundas who awarded DCC to the minor puppy Firth’s Nictoney Intuition. RDCC went to the other end of the age range to Hunt & Norris’ Ch Shercroft Apollo JW ShCM who was also BVIB. The top awards in bitches all went to Annavah owned or bred beagles. BCC & BOB went to Ch A Princess Tiana owned and bred by the Havards who also took BPIB with Dufosee Julianna avec Annavah. Annavah Belinda of Davricard owned by David Craig took the RBCC. Tiana went on to win HG4 judged by Miss Helen Wayman.

THE SOTTISH BEAGLE CLUB 60th Anniversary Championship and Open shows were held at Carluke on Sunday 18th June. The officers and committee are pictured above with Championship show judge Sally Kimber.

BLACKPOOL Championship Show on Saturday 24th June was the last show in a busy month. An entry of 50/59 awaited judge Mr Sigurd Wilberg who was awarding CCs in beagles for the first time.

The Havards’ Ch Annavah Princess Tiana was awarded the BCC. Parker & Stevens’ Serenaker beagles did the RCC double with Ch S Armani and Ch S Maid In America. BPIB went to Christine Lewis’ minor puppy dog Fallowfield Fellman who went on to win HPG4 judged by Mr Rui Oliveira from Portugal.
