WILMA MORRISON (1951-2025)

Wilma showing Fara in 2014

The Scottish Beagle Club was saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Wilma Morrison on 10th April.

Wilma was well known in the Scottish dog show scene. She was secretary of Clackmannanshire Canine Club for many years and its open show had been held less than four weeks earlier. Wilma was also very involved in Broxburn & District Ringcraft Club which she attended weekly as one of the trainers and organisers.

From the 1970s Wilma and husband Richard (Dick) were well known for breeding and showing Cavalier King Charles Spaniels under their Bowerswell affix. The last litter of Cavaliers was born in 2007. Wilma was a life member of The Scottish Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club.

In the 1980s the first beagle joined the family, owned by 12 year old daughter Nadine. This was Dewlingsted Merrymate born in 1984. She was mated to Ch Mistylaw Willy Nilly which resulted in two sisters which were kept, tri Dinman Razzle Dazzle and tan & white Dinman Hubble Bubble. Razzle Dazzle had a litter in 1987 to Mistylaw Atlas and Nadine kept the tri dog Dinman Rooster Coburn who was shown with success. Hubble Bubble had a litter in 1988 to Mistylaw Chuckle of Millmar. From this litter Dinman The Cisco Kid was owned by Wilma. In the same year Nadine obtained Norcis Teale, a tri dog puppy from Eleanor Bothwell followed by Deanery Bracken of Marton, a tan & white dog bred by Wal and Jean Westren. As well as showing in the breed classes Nadine was a talented and successful junior handler.

When Nadine left home the beagles were transferred to Wilma. The first “Bowerswell” beagles was a litter by Deanery Bracken to Deanery Beatrix in 1993 which produced three puppies, from which a tri dog Bowerswell Guinnes and a tan & white bitch Bowerswell Rowena were shown.

It wasn’t until 2011 that another beagle joined the Cavaliers. This was Newlin Iona at Bowerswell who gained her ShCM. From Iona’s litter sired by Newlin Flint in 2013, Wilma kept a tri bitch, Bowerswell Fara who gave birth to the last litter of Bowerswell beagles in 2015. From this litter sired by Ch Molesend Kaftan Wilma kept Bowerswell Lamm Tarra, a tan & white mottle bitch.

Wilma served on the Scottish Beagle Club committee from 2013-2023.

Wilma had been married to Dick since 1970 and was a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Thoughts and sincere condolences to Dick and all her family.

Rest in Peace Wilma.
